An ancient Carthusian Monastry that was secularised during the Napoleonic era, this must be one of the prettiest major wine estates in the world, and is set in an idyllic rural landscape just a few miles up the Ruwer valley from Trier. Although all wines from the whole Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region are now labeled 'Mosel', this estate is a Ruwer one.

2008 Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Spätlese €14.20
Very pale gold. Slightly floral nose. Very light on the palate with - possibly - slighty enhanced acidity but quite good fruit. Very attractive in it's own light way.
16/20 Needs a minimum of two years.

2008 Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Auslese €18.50
Pale gold. Moderately floral nose. Similar to the Spätlese above, but somewhat richer. The acidity may again be slightly enhanced, but not excessively. Good fruit, very fresh.
17/20 Needs a minimum of two years.

2004 Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Auslese €16.90
Pale Gold, with a slightly floral nose. Excellent tropical fruit and high natural acidity on the palate, with quite a complex minerality. Very spritzig, even after several years in the bottle. Recommended.
19/20 Ready now.
