URGENT NEWS: Please click here to read about a major threat to the Mosel

Weingut Sturm and Sohn
HauptStrasse 31
D-65345 Rauenthal

Herr Sturm does not speak English, and my German is very poor to non-existant, so little communication was possible. I do not know if he can send wine to Britain, but he probably could if you can communicate with him.

2001 Rauenthaler Wülfen Riesling Spätlese
Pale gold without hints of green.
Excellent flowery nose almost as good as most Mosel wines. Quite rich, and rather full-bodied (as I would expect from Rauenthal, one of the finer wine villages in the Rheingau), with good acidity. Quite firm, with a slightly dry element to the flavour, probably due to the slightly high alcohol content (9.5%). Fairly good but not superb fruit, and a trace, but not much, of the spiciness for which the wines of Rauenthal are famous.

17/20
